Maybelline Brow Satin Review + Tip For The Perfect Ombré Eyebrow (super easy)

The Brow Satin had my attention pretty fast when I saw it for the first time at my local Migros. Why? Well it had a huge *NEW* sticker on it. Since I live in Switzerland I was quite skeptical, if it's actually new. If a Product is *new* in Switzerland, the rest of the world has had it for a pretty good amount of time already, so that there would be thousands of review online before we even get to try it.  But to my surprise I couldn't find any Reviews. So I had to have it! And of course make a review as soon as possible!

Brand: Maybelline
Product: Brow Satin Smoothing Eyebrow-Duo
Color: Medium Brown
Price: a bit under 10 Swiss Francs /GBP 5.99 in Boots/ couldn't find any $ reference
Available in 4 different shades in the UK: dark blonde, medium brown, mahogany red, dark brown

Description
Unfortunately I couldn't find a good description, on what the Brow Satin claims to do online, and if you watched my video on this review, you probably know why I can't read anything on the packaging.
The Maybelline Brow Satin is a 2-in-1 brow product. On one end you have a retractable pencil, and on the other side you have a small sponge, which loads up with powder each time you twist it out and back into the cap.

The Pen
This side of the Brow Satin reminds me a lot of the Anastasia Brow Wiz, which is really hyped at the moment. It's very fine and that make it perfect to carve out the perfect brow arch. The consistency is quite creamy and has a nice color payoff. With "creamy" I don't mean creamy as of a gel or something like that, but soft enough, that it doesn't pull the fine hair of your eyebrows. As for the color, I'm always very careful with my pick for brow products, because a lot of them have a very warm undertone, and i like my brows to be more on the ashy side. But the Brow Satin had the perfect color for me. A nice ashy-Brown.

The Powder
This is how the powder side works: A little, pointy sponge is attached to the tip of the Brow Satin, and inside of the cap you screw onto this side of the pen, there is a pressed powder right at the very tip. Each time you screw the cap on and off the pen, the sponge twists in to the powder. That's how it loads up. And that is also the part I'm not to pleased with. I find that the powder applies uneven and you will have to twits is in and out of the cap a few times. But if you like a very strong brow you can just layer the powder until it's even.
The color of the powder is a lot more warm toned than the pen, and since that doesn't suit my very well, I don't tend to use the powder very often.

Staying Power
I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the staying power. My brows look exactly the same when I remove them at night, to when I applied them in the morning.

Bottom Line
Even if I don't get much use out of the powder side, I will repurchase the Brow Satin again. Ever since I've used it for the first time, I've not touched any other brow product. It has all I look for in a great brow pencil.

The Perfect Ombré Eyebrow (super easy)
I'd like to share a trick with you that will make filling in your brows a no-brainer. And it's also perfect for beginners!
In a lot of pictures of perfect eyebrows you will see this really nice ombré going on in the inner part of the brows. And with this trick exactly this, will be a piece of cake.
So instead of trying to keep a light hand to get that perfect ombré, just concentrate one the shape of your brows and fill them in very heavy. Don't freak out, you will look really funny with those boxy eyebrows. Then instead of using one of these eyebrow spoolies, grad a clean, fluffy powder brush und start to brush trough your brows. Concentrate the most pressure on the inner part of your brows and you will see the ombré starting to develop. The more you brush, the more natural your brows will look!
If you're a bit skeptical, just watch my demo in the video;)

Have fun trying this thick!

much love, Jeannine

  3. It's def one of my favorite in the sense of loving the nice gel like pencil and the power and how they apply. Unfortunately, like you, I need a more ashy color. I'm an ash blonde, yet the pencil has a bit of an orangy or reddish hue to it then the powder is like an ash brown. If the powder was lighter and the pencil the same color it'd work perfect! I really hope they develop more colors in the future! In America they only have the four colors as well. And I'm new to filling in my brows so I haven't found a product that suits me best yet.
